Tips to enhance your Kenya Serena Safari experience:

Should you go on a road safari or a fly-in safari?
  • THE MASAI MARA MIGRATION

From July to September, more than 3 million animals including wildebeests and zebras migrate from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya. This crossing activity of the Mara River is deemed to be the climax of the migration period. Numerous wildlife documentaries have been made on the famous sight, but nothing beats experiencing it first-hand.

In November, following the short rains, the huge herds head south to the Serengeti. While many time their Masai Mara Safari to correspond with the migration, there is still an abundant population of animals throughout the year. As such, you can expect a memorable Kenya Serena Safari holiday any time of the year.

  • Add-On: Paradise Islands Destinations

A perfect end to your Safari is usually a relaxing stay on one of the exotic Indian Ocean Paradise Islands.

Sweetwaters Luxury Tented Camp

Found at the heart of the privately owned 22,000 acre Sweetwaters Game Reserve, the tented camp offers awe-inspiring views from the game-rich plains all the way to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya.

Set up in the early ’70s, the main building was formerly the home of billionaire Adnan Kashoggi’s ranch manager.

  • More Information

The camp overlooks a floodlit waterhole, offering guests a memorable chance to watch and photograph animals while in their natural habitat.

Accommodation: Their 30 lavish en-suite tents provide splendid views from the plains to the snow-capped peaks of Mt. Kenya.

    Activities:

There is plenty to see at Sweetwaters. From giraffes, elands, zebras, waterbucks, oryx, elephants, Thompson’s gazelle, Grant’s Gazelle, cheetah, buffalo, silver-backed jackals, hartebeests, ostriches, baboons, lions and rhinos, all are present.

Sweetwaters is also home to the sole chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya. Many of the chimpanzees hail from the Jane Goodall Institute in Burundi. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary cares for the chimps as a non-profit venture.

Many of the chimps were saved from the most atrocious conditions and it is heart-warming to find them dwelling in the riverine forest and the savannah grasslands here.
