Penetrating the Impenetrable Forest is no picnic, as the terrain is steep, but what a reward. All the hardships are forgotten in an instant with the first glimpse of the gorillas in their mountain kingdom. No bars, no cars – this is not a safari park but their world, and you become their privileged guests. Bwindi is home to 326 gorillas, almost a half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is situated in the Virunga Volcanoes mountain range and located in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the western Rift Valley. It is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth, where over half the world’s population of highly endangered Mountain Gorillas live in its jungles.

Uganda Gorilla Trek

there’s just one Bwindi gorilla for every 20 million people!

The highlight of your Safari – a meeting with the gentle giants of Bwindi. The hike may take as long as eight hours in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes in rainy conditions, but it will definitely be worth it as you take a close-up look at the gorillas while they eat, play and rest; a unique and unforgettable experience. Time spent with the gorillas is limited to one hour.

Book at least 6 months in advance to ensure that requested dates are available.

Gorilla tracking in Bwindi can be challenging, therefore ensure fitness. The tracking experience starts at 8:30 am local time and can last from a few hours to a whole day.

What to bring on a Gorilla Trek:

Wear jungle shoes suitable for steep muddy slopes and carry a rain jacket because the park is often wet.

Put on ear plugs for those who feel uncomfortable with jungle sounds.

Carry rain gear, sunscreen lotion, a hat (as the weather is unpredictable) and insect repellent.

Besides all these, Uganda is also blessed with a vast bird population of more than 1,000 species. Uganda is Africa condensed, with the best of everything the continent has to offer packed into one small but stunning destination.

  • UGANDA SAFARI ADD-ON

Include an overnight at Lake Mburo National Park inclusive of a stop at the Equator, boating safari on Lake Mburo and game drives. This is a road transfer option along a scenic route.
