SAFARI HOLIDAYS IN TANZANIA – WHERE TO GO & WHEN

A Tanzania safari is an adventure filled with lifetime memories. From some of the best wildlife viewing game reserves, people’s culture, scenic landscape, warm climate to best beaches along its Indian Ocean coast, a Tanzania safari has everything for an extraordinary holiday or honeymoon.

What to Expect On Safari in Tanzania

If you are wondering where to go on safari in Tanzania or what to expect, then there are plenty of natural attractions for you. For the wildlife enthusiasts, Tanzania boasts of prolific wildlife with almost a third of the country secured for the game reserves.  From the iconic Serengeti and the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater Safari to the Southern Tanzania Parks of Selous to Ruaha game reserves, you have plenty of options to pick from.

The Best Time to Do Safari in Tanzania

Although Tanzania safari provides incredible experience year round, you can pick from the various seasons depending on what you really want out of your safari.

Among the best safari destinations is the Serengeti National Park. The iconic game reserve is best known for prolific wildlife including the majestic African lion. The game reserve is also home to a vast population of African elephants and other members of the BIG FIVE animals. The best time is during the phenomenal wildebeest migration. The great migration of the millions of wildebeests and zebras  around Serengeti is a spectacle you cannot miss.

When Is The Serengeti Migration Season?

The season from December to March is the best time to be in Serengeti ecosystem for the 8th Wonder of the World as the wildebeest, Zebra and Gazelles’ migration is in full swing. It is also the calving time for the wildebeest, and thus it is spectacle sight to behold. It is peak season with most of the safari lodges booked in advance.

Each park has its own attraction during Tanzania’s seasonal months. During the wet season (November – December and March – May), the abundance of water means that Lake Manyara National Park is alive with life. If you want to spend less for a holiday, November to December and April to May  is considered “off-season” with lodge rates considerably lower. Although these months are said to be off-peak season, games reserves such as Serengeti and Lake Manyara provide  excellent game viewing similar to that experienced during the “peak season.”

From June to October (the dry season), is another great time for a Safari in Tanzania. Although the migration will have left for the crossing to Kenya’s Masai Mara , the resident game is seen around water sources. A safari in Tarangire National Park during this period will thrill you. The rapidly depleting water supply forces the park’s animals to move closer to the only reliable sources of water: the Tarangire River and the swamps of the river valley.

If you want to know what is the best safari in Tanzania, you have a long list to pick from – Ruaha Safari to Selous in Southern Tanzania to the famous Northern Parks of Tanzania.
